Hyannis Open Streets Returns to Main Street Sunday

The street will be closed to vehicular traffic this afternoon between Ocean and Sea Streets between noon and 5 p.m.


The area will feature bands, artists and assorted games and activities along with special deals from restaurants and retail shops.


The event is hosted by the Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District, the Greater Hyannis Civic Association and the Greater Hyannis Chamber of Commerce.

Hyannis Open Streets noon-5 p.m. today

Hyannis Main Street will become a free playground for all ages from noon to 5 p.m. today at Open Streets.


From Ocean Street to Sea Street, the car-free span will host a carefree collection of bands, games, and opportunities to dance and exercise.


New this year is an invitation for plein air painters to set up their easels along Main Street and capture the lively scene. There’s also a kids’ scavenger hunt for original art by Barnstable High School creators.

Main Street Hyannis to be Closed Sunday for Open Streets Dance Block Party

The second Hyannis Open Streets of the year on Sunday will be a dance block party from noon until 5 p.m.


The car-free event opens up Main Street from Barnstable Road to Sea Street for residents and visitors to enjoy healthy activities and discover local businesses.


Musical performers include the Moonlighters Big Band, JT & DJ Angel and Funktapuss.

Perel: Dancing in the street shows anything is possible

We laughed like the children. We sampled Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and pizza topped with chocolate. We took a ride in a cart on the back of a bicycle, waving to people who were smiling and laughing with us.

Hyannis Hosts Open Streets

On Sept. 25 from noon to 5 p.m., Main Street, Hyannis, from Ocean to Sea streets was closed to cars and wide open just for pedestrians, bicyclists and other foot traffic for the first ever Hyannis Open Streets.


Presented by the Greater Hyannis Civic Association with support from the Greater Hyannis Chamber of Commerce and the Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District, Hyannis Open Streets offered free entertainment alongside opportunities to exercise and learn.


Hyannis Open Streets took place concurrently with LoveLocal Fest at Aselton Park on Hyannis Harbor.

For five hours on Sunday, Sept. 25, Main Street Hyannis will be closed to cars but very much open to pedestrians, bicyclists and other foot traffic as the village enjoys its first-ever Open Streets festival.
